Alice's Patchwork Review

Recommended

Good puzzles, with good tiling, and fair placement matching. Good amount of content.
The bad menuing, low-variance generic music, and disableable time challenge are excusable.

When you start playing I highly recommend enabling relaxed mode to disable the time challenge. Instead of feeling rushed, essentially a bad experience, you can take a calm, chill approach to solving.

Only five pieces show for placement at a time. The random piece sets by nature sometimes leave you with impossible/unreasonable solvability/discoverability, but the great tiling design makes these occurrences in the earlier levels rare, and in later levels the fair hint system saves you from remaining stuck or frustrated.

+ great
+ good/great amount of content (6 x 20 puzzles)
+ fair/lenient correct-placement-identification
+ good picture/theme variance
+ for the most part, good tiling/piece splitting and place-able set choice (I felt it got worse in the second half)
* shows 5 pieces for placement at a time
* fair help system; tells you where to put a piece on activation on a cooldown
* not much variance in music
* ~14 hours playthrough (all keys, relaxed mode (no time limit)) (after 3 hours I had done the first 2x20 puzzles, so with 120 in 14, solve speed definitely went in later levels)
- pretty bad menus
- puzzles are locked behind progressing through the puzzles in order and with arbitrary goals (solved, in time/in general in relaxed mode, with no mistake); and awful design decision
- Unfeasible achievements (one broken?)

list items with positives as +, neutrals as *, negatives as -

Unfortunately, the four achievements left open are not viably achievable. I played in relaxed mode, now all keys are unlocked, but the 40 levels with 3 keys achievement is locked, and even after disabling relaxed mode it does not show which ones are supposedly missing. Having completed all levels with 3 keys each, not even having unlocked the 500 k coin achievement, the 1 M coin achievement seems like unfeasible and annoying grinding.

For the low price in general and with discounts, I recommend it for jigsaw puzzle enjoyers.
